Research the "Great Recession" of 2007-2009.  What was the impact of the recession on American workers (older workers, youth)?  What industries and businesses were hit hardest?

Research paper guidelines:   

  • The research paper should be 1200-1500 words.
  • Use at least 3 outside sources (books or web articles in addition to any of the essays in our textbook that you choose to include).
  • Include at least 5 direct quotations or paraphrases with parenthetical citations.  Only one quote may be a long block quote (if any).
  • A paragraph in which you summarize or paraphrase information from a book or website will STILL NEED A CITATION.  You can place the citation at the end of the paragraph if you are summarizing information from one source throughout that paragraph.   
  • All papers will be evaluated by Turnitin.com, a plagiarism checker, so be sure that when you quote, paraphrase, and summarize, you cite correctly! Do not plagiarize.  Give credit for any words or ideas that you read from a source.Please review how to cite information from web sources.  PLAGIARISM WILL RESULT IN A ZERO.

Do not use "you" or "I" in a scholarly research paper.  Papers must be written in academic 3rd person. 


Follow this outline:

Introduction:  Give background on the topic and end with your thesis statement (the argument you are making about the topic).

Body Paragraphs:   Will vary in number.  Prove your argument.

Conclusion:  Restate your thesis statement FIRST in your conclusion.  Then say something further or revisit your main points.
