Research paper

For this assignment, compose an essay of 1,200-1,500 words based on a topic stemming from your brainstorming, marginalia, or SCW essays over the last couple weeks. You may expand one of the SCW essays or dive into a brand new topic. Remember that this paper must be a formal persuasive essay arguing for a clear position on your topic; in addition, it must be supported by research. Be sure to include quotes and/or paraphrases from an adequate number of credible, academic sources.

Whereas in all other class writing only a basic level of professional standard is expected, the research paper requires high academic standards; choices about diction and syntax should be made with care, grammatical and mechanical conventions should be carefully followed, and appropriate tone and POV should be maintained. 

It is fine for your essay to deviate from the direction described in the Proposal & Outline assignment; just make sure that the paper's focus is consistent throughout itself. While preparing the essay, be sure to refer to the course lecture materials as needed, and remember that writing is a process--you should expect to write multiple drafts in order to create a successful paper.
