- Word count at bottom left
- Feel free to use media: audio, video, visual, etc
Your proposal needs to include the following sections:
Purpose (about 200 words)
The purpose section needs to identifies the topic and some of the issues you chose for your research. The topic should be of interest to you, and also one that you believe you can view through many lenses. Your topic should be one to which you can contribute something on the discourse surrounding it. This means that you are not searching for tidy answers or absolutes that shut down the conversation; rather, your research and writing is an exploration of ideas that opens and perpetuates discourse.
Your topic for the Final Research Essay must be something that relates to identity. It can be about race, ability / disability, gender, sexual orientation or any number of issues surrounding identity.
In this section, describe what you see as the issues and summarize your interest in the topic. Write down any questions that have led you to this line of research (including those we worked on together in class.)
Reflection (about 500 words)
In this section, write about your rhetorical situation. What brings you to this issue? Why do you think it is important to study? What do you see as its academic relevance?
In this section you can use firsthand experience to explain what brought you to this research. Make a meaningful statement about what you're planning to accomplish in your work.
You shouldn't need too much outside research for this part, so you probably won't need to cite anything; however, if you do reference someone else's work, you should cite it using the proper APA formatting for in-text citations and include a Works Cited page.
Implications (about 150 words)
In this section, briefly explore the context of the conversation you will enter as you research your topic. What significant information do you hope to uncover? What will your contribution mean to the larger context of the issue? What questions do you imagine will come up as you explore your issue? What current issues are relevant to your work?
