The respiratory system is important because it moves fresh air into your body and at the same time removing waste gas. The conducting zone includes the organs and structures that are not directly involved in the gas exchange process. The respiratory zone is where gas exchanges happened.
Portions of the respiratory system are also used for non-vital functions, such as sensing odors, speech production, which includes speech vocalization, crying ,laughing and for straining, such as during childbirth or coughing.
