Essay #2: Proposal:  

topic: why my college needs a cafeteria.

Directions: Write an argument essay that proposes a solution to a problem at Collin College or your high school if you are a dual-credit student. You will need to take a stand/position on your argument (also known as the thesis) and offer one or more viable, logical, and well thought-out solution(s). In the essay, you will need to address other possible solutions, then explain why your proposed solution is the best option. Your audience for Collin College includes the Collin Faculty Counsel, comprised of professors from numerous disciplines; Dr. Amy Gainer, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs; and Dr. Brenda Carter, Dean of Academic Affairs. The audience for your high school includes the high-school teachers, the principal, the superintendent, and the school board members. Specific requirements include the following:

- a minimum of 9-10 pages using MLA format (the Works Cited page does not count as 1 of the required 9 pages)

- a minimum of 6 sources from which you quote and/or paraphrase and document using parenthetical references; 2 of the sources must be from scholarly journals; the other 4 sources must be reputable and can be from books, magazine, newspapers, reports, the Internet, etc.

- hard copies of the entire articles that include the full citation information (be sure to use articles and not abstracts of articles or book reviews)

- a correctly documented Works Cited page.

The six sources for this paper will be used for the annotated bibliography assignment, so it is important that you print the entire articles and that you choose articles you can summarize and evaluate.
