SOCW 6336 Final Project Directions For your Final Project, you will apply concepts, theories, and approaches presented in the course. The project must be presented as an 8- to 10-page (not including title page or references), double-spaced, APA-formatted paper along with a presentation. The written portion of the Final Project must be submitted by Day 7 of Week 10. The presentation portion of the Final Project must be submitted by Day 7 of Week 11.

Throughout the course, there will be checkpoint assignments to help you draft the final project. You will receive instructor feedback on each of these checkpoint assignments, and you should apply that feedback to the Final Project.

For your Final Project, select one crisis type from any of the following categories:

• A crisis with an individual, couple, or family • A crisis in the community • A crisis in the nation

The crisis you select may be one you personally experienced, learned about through this course, or heard about on the news. The crisis can be in the past or the present. The crisis should be discussed from an academic lens and written in a scholarly voice.

There will be a checkpoint for you to formally present your topic.

By Day 7 of Week 10 • Describe the crisis, including the event/situation, implications, responders,

victims, survivors, and, if applicable, the perpetrators. • Describe the forms of assessment you might use. Then, explain why those

assessments are appropriate for this crisis. • Explain the potential short-term and long-term effects that might be experienced

by the people impacted by the crisis. • Describe the competencies you would need to work with people impacted by the

crisis. Justify why you selected these competencies. • Explain the cultural, ethical, and legal implications that need to be considered

when working with individuals impacted by this crisis. • Explain the anticipated outcomes for immediate, short-term, and long-term

interventions used. • Suggest prevention efforts that may mitigate the impact of the crisis.
