IDS 403 Module Six Activity Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

In this activity, you will consider how the analysis of your social, cultural, or global event where a technology plays a significant role might have turned out differently if you looked at it through a different lens. You will also consider how your critical analysis can help in interactions with others. Completing this activity will result in a draft of the second part of the reflection section of your project. It also provides an opportunity to obtain valuable feedback from your instructor that you can incorporate into your project submission.

Directions

In this activity, you will work on the second part of the reflection section of your project. You should consider the feedback from your instructor on the previous activity. Include diverse perspectives from varied sources to support your points. Look to the SNHU Shapiro Library for assistance and consider the sources you have used thus far to support your research.

You are not required to answer each question below the rubric criteria but may use them to better understand the criteria and guide your thinking.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

1. Integrate  reliable evidence from varied sources throughout your paper to support your analysis.

A. It is important to draw from a diverse pool of perspectives from varied sources to support the analysis. This is different from the Citations and Attributions rubric criterion.

B. Reliable evidence from varied sources should be interwoven throughout the paper itself, while citing and attributing sources will be represented as APA in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your work.

C. You will be evaluated on both criteria.

2. Explain at least one way in which your analysis might have been  different if you had used one of the other  general education lenses to analyze the technology’s role in your event.

A. This should be a brief (3–5 sentences) reflection about how using the language and perspective from a different lens would shift your view of your technology’s role in the event.

3. Explain how critically analyzing the technology’s role in your event can help  interactions with those of a different viewpoint, culture, or perspective.

A. Think about ways in which a greater awareness of technology strengthens individual conversations. Consider including an example from your life.

What to Submit

Submit your short paper as a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style.

Module Five

Through the various aspects of blockchain technology, my individual framework of perception has been changed in the sense of accepting or perceiving the world in a more helpful way and in terms of trust, decentralization, and security. In the past, structural trust was built by centralized bodies like banks, governments, and various corporations. However, blockchain brings a completely new twist, which is the ability to decentralize trust by distributing it among nodes (Maesa & Mori, 2020). Such decentralization has led me to doubt the relevance of middlemen in many spheres of life, including bank operations and the electorate processes.

Furthermore, blockchain has important security, and working with it has made me sensitive to data security and threats that come with centralized systems. The unchangeable characteristics of the blockchain system had me reflect on how I valued data accuracy, analyzing the dangers of a concentrated database prone to hacking and tampering. Thus, at the present time, I have come to better appreciate the significance of data security as one of the core components of any technological project. Also, due to the transparency that blockchain possesses, the degree of mistrust for murkier systems has grown for me, and I value clear and accountable systems. According to Belchior (2019), the possibility of tracking transactions using a decentralized database has led to debates over institutions’ responsibility and contributed to my desire for probation of more openness in various spheres.

Analyzing my prejudices has changed the ways I employ specific technologies in a profound manner. For example, as I realized that I favored convenience and efficiency, I started wondering about the moral aspects of technologies that offer convenience at the cost of privacy. This awareness made me pay closer attention to the data-gathering methods used by companies and app developers and reconsider the balance between convenience and privacy provided by the technologies I use. Furthermore, declaring my relevant biases helped me become more open to steering clear of the typical technologies that are not revolutionary, in my opinion. While in the past, I discarded technologies that were not consistent with my prejudice; I now look forward to diverse views as well as the possible positive impact of new technologies. I believe my openness to new ideas has benefited my technological-oriented endeavors and broadened my perspective on the opportunities that come with new technological inventions.

Reflecting on the function of a particular technology in my field can result in this specific area being shifted out, of course. For instance, in the area of finance, the analysis of the blockchain has led to the identification of threats regarding the existing financial systems (Chang et al., 2020). Having knowledge of how blockchain works has provided finance practitioners with strategies in identifying areas of disruption, including DeFi, and trying to come up with new approaches to things like P2P lending and assets digitization.

In addition, proper education on the subject can help in anticipating the next hot topic in finance. For instance, blockchain technology can be applied in AI and IoT to generate self-powered financial systems (Mahadasa et al., 2019). Thus, staying on top of technological trends and analyzing their potential impacts helps finance professionals not only to place themselves at the cutting edge of innovation but also to foster the development of the finance field. Conclusively, the presented aspect of the blockchain influences my outlook, the way I apply technology, and my perspective on the professional sphere. Thus, a critical approach towards technology and reflection of individual biases help to thrive in the digital age and make a positive contribution to the chosen sphere of knowledge or activity.
