Module 1 - Discussion: The Paradox of Choice

Discussion Board activities are part of your Statistical Airport Project due at the end of the course. In this discussion activity (and only after completing the assigned reading), practically apply the concepts you learned in this module. To view the rubric used for grading that participation, click on the gear icon () at the top of the page and select “Show Rubric” from the drop-down menu.  

Starting your project

Choose an airport to use for all your discussion posts that will culminate in your final paper. Your first post in this forum will be to request the instructor's approval of your choice. Small airports are not likely to provide you with the statistical data you will need throughout the course. Review the discussion forum before posting your choice so you do not duplicate airports.

It is important for you to select and post your choice of airports extra early in the week for two reasons:

• instructor needs time to approve your selection so you can participate in the discussion
• if there is a dispute about a duplicate airport, the student that posted the selection first will get it. 

Your instructor will post the approval (or disapproval) of your selection within 48 hours.

Research a current decision faced by the airport you selected (and the instructor approved).

Write and Reflect

Post two or three paragraphs describing how airport leadership could use the topics learned in this module to aid in their decision making.  Feel free to offer your own suggestions. Does your intuition follow what the mathematics would suggest you do?

Your initial post should be made before the end of the fourth day of the module to receive full credit. Return at least once later in the module to comment on two or more classmates’ posts. Do NOT“post and run” – making all three posts in the same visit. You need multiple visits to the Discussions in order to gain multiple perspectives by reading all of the posts and replies.
