respond to your classmates by examining the same works of art they examined. Provide your reflection on the work, and consider how it is similar or different from their interpretations.
PEERS RESPONSE:
After reading the material and watching the videos, I was intrigued on how art can be looked at differently. i like that the definition of art is not one solid definition as there is multiple definitions to the word and more of definition of one owns self thought. I was surprised by the art forms chapter of the text book (Introduction to Art: Design, Context, and Meaning, n.d.). I find it interesting how art has changed over time with technology but you still see your two and three dimensional Art. in todays world I feel as four dimension art is more popular due to the technology that we are discovering where as two and three dimensional art is kind of considerate historical in its own way. In a way I feel as we all started off with two dimensional art growing up drawing, coloring, and painting without even knowing it was considered art.
I decided to go with a painting from The National Gallery Google Virtual Tour. This tour was made of two dimensional art mostly of oil on canvas paintings. I have chosen a painting Titled "Score", from the artist Paolo Veronese. (Paolo Veronese | Scorn | NG1324 | National Gallery, London, n.d.). This painting is a part of a series of paintings called the four allegories of Love. The four painting that are apart of this series are, Unfaithfulness, Respect, Happy Union, and Score. My initial reaction to this painting was confusion, at first glance it looked like a baby just beat up a man infront of these women. Then i thought about the video I watched on skills of describing (Smarthistory, 2012) looking further in detail I realized it was cupid stopping the man from sexualizing this particular women, you can see cupid is disappointed in this man for his actions. the women in the green comes to take this particular women away from this man who is trying to sexualize her. Once I understood the meaning behind this painting I understand why there is a series. Every painting in this series tells a different story. This painting is one of four of the series which indulges the concerns of trial and rewards of love.
