this is a discerption of the project I need  to do:

Optical frequency comb (OFC) sources are a platform laser technology that can be applied to many diverse markets. An application of OFCs that recently has stirred a lot of interest is photonic sensing as OFCs can be applied in sensing applications to provide extremely high sensitivity and selectivity. Early explorations have shown that it is possible to detect the presence of multiple gas signatures using the OFC. 

Such an OFC should serve as a low cost, miniaturised optical sensor platform, based on gain switching and/or pulse shaping optical comb technology. Additionally, it should exhibit high sensitivities and be suitable for detecting and monitoring trace-gas molecules in real-world applications – atmospheric chemistry, pollution monitoring, medical diagnostics, industrial process control, defense and more. 

I need a help to understand OFC and to simulate it using VPI
