Presentation & Executive Summary of Quality Improvement Plan to Meet the CMS Quality Indicator

Prepare a presentation to share with the interprofessional team. The presentation with speaker notes and include:

1. CMS quality indicator selected

2. Purpose of the pilot study and research question

3. Proposed innovation to be implemented to improve outcomes

4. Ethical and rigor considerations

5. Potential funding source

· Search the internet to see if you can find a grant opportunity that would be aligned with your hypothetical study.

· Discuss the potential funding available, grant criteria and strategies that would need to be included in the study to align with the funding source.

· Identify resources that would be needed to develop a grant proposal.

Additionally, create an executive summary of the proposed pilot study as a handout for the interprofessional team summarizing the proposed intervention research to impact quality outcomes. Lastly, your instructor will schedule a TEAM meeting and, you will perform a live presentation. Your peers should see your face during the presentation.

Submission Instructions:

· The presentation and the summary should be clear and concise. Students will lose points for improper grammar, punctuation and misspelling.

· The presentation should be 5–8 slides with speaker notes and reference slide citing publications used to support project design.

· The executive summary should be 1–2 pages.

· Both the presentation and the summary should be formatted per current APA. Incorporate a minimum of 5 current (published within last five years)  scholarly journal articles or  primary legal sources (statutes, court opinions) within your work.

DNP Project Presentation with Speaker Notes and Executive Summary

Slide 1: Title

Improving CMS Pneumonia Mortality Outcomes Through a DNP-Led Care Bundle Speaker Notes: Good afternoon everyone. Today I will present a proposed DNP-led pilot study designed to improve outcomes for Medicare patients hospitalized with pneumonia. This project focuses on the CMS Hospital Risk-Standardized Mortality Rate quality indicator for pneumonia. The proposed intervention is a standardized pneumonia care bundle aimed at reducing 30-day mortality and improving evidence-based care.

Slide 2: CMS Quality Indicator

CMS Quality Indicator: Hospital Risk-Standardized Mortality Rate (RSMR) for Pneumonia (NQF #0468) Speaker Notes: The CMS quality indicator selected for this project is the Hospital Risk-Standardized Mortality Rate for pneumonia. This measure evaluates mortality within 30 days of hospitalization and is publicly reported by CMS. Hospitals with better outcomes often demonstrate stronger adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines.

Slide 3: Purpose and Research Question

Purpose: Evaluate whether a DNP-led pneumonia care bundle improves outcomes and reduces mortality. Research Question: Among Medicare patients hospitalized with pneumonia, does implementation of a DNP-led pneumonia care bundle compared with usual care reduce 30-day mortality? Speaker Notes: This study uses a quasi-experimental pre/post design. Data from patients before implementation will be compared to outcomes after implementation to determine effectiveness.

Slide 4: Proposed Innovation

DNP-Led Pneumonia Care Bundle: • CURB-65 severity assessment • Early sepsis screening • Timely antibiotic administration • Standardized EHR order sets • Staff education • Vaccination prior to discharge Speaker Notes: The intervention combines evidence-based strategies recommended by national clinical guidelines. Standardization helps reduce variation in care and improve patient outcomes.

Slide 5: Ethical and Rigor Considerations

Ethical Considerations: • IRB approval • HIPAA compliance • Protection of vulnerable populations Threats to Validity: • Selection bias • Hawthorne effect • Seasonal variation • Documentation inconsistencies Speaker Notes: Ethical safeguards will ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with research regulations. Multiple strategies will be implemented to strengthen validity and reliability.

Slide 6: Potential Funding Source

Potential Funding Source: Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Resources Needed: • Data analyst • Project manager • Staff education • EHR support Speaker Notes: AHRQ supports projects focused on healthcare quality and patient safety. The proposed study aligns with these priorities because it aims to improve outcomes through evidence-based interventions.

Slide 7: Expected Impact

Expected Outcomes: • Reduced mortality • Improved guideline adherence • Better CMS performance • Enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration Speaker Notes: Successful implementation could improve patient outcomes, support organizational quality initiatives, and provide a model for expansion to other units and healthcare systems.
