Student Characteristics

Background

The Common Core of Data (CCD) is the Department of Education's primary database on public elementary and secondary education in the United States that is available on the National Center for Education Statistics website. CCD is a comprehensive, annual, national database of all public elementary and secondary schools and school districts. The database includes detailed student characteristics that inform teaching and learning. On the state level, school and district accountability systems report student achievement each academic year, including other student data linked to performance. [MO8a.]

(2018-2019) provided by the Mississippi Department of Education to compare five (5) Mississippi Public School Districts to consider the student characteristics that impact the teaching and learning process.

Step 2: Create a table in MS Word with the title "Comparing Mississippi Public School Districts" that has 10 Columns and 5 Rows with the following headings:

• District Name - 
• District Grade (A-F) 
• Grade Level (s)
• Student/Teacher Ratio
• Race/Ethnicity
• Language (English, ESL ELL)
• (#) of Students with IEPs
• (%) of Students with Disabilities
• Absenteeism (%)
• (%) of Discipline Incidents

Step 3: Based on your data comparison, which school district would you be interested in learning more about and why?  Record your response below the table.
