TITLE: Playground Equipment Assignment

Introduction

This assignment will give you the opportunity to apply information from our chapters to a play envrironment related to physical development.

This assignment fulfills

• Module Outcome 4. You will have identified several physical, cognitive, and social and emotional benefits of physical activity for all children, including children with disabilities
• Course Outcome 5. You will have planned developmentally appropriate experiences, interaction techniques, and environments that are sensitive to and meet the individual needs of all children.
• General Education Competency  2. You will have used critical thinking to analyze problems and make logical decisions.
  

The Assignment

  You will visit a local childcare center, park, school or mall play area (location must be included in your submission) and complete a developmental analysis of playground equipment.  How does the equipment aide in the the fine and gross motor abilities of elementary school-aged children?  You should explicitly tie your observation notes to the points on the Physical Development pdf. Note:  Entrance into a childcare center/public school may require advance preparation such as scheduling, background checks, etc.
