Week 2 Discussion Task – Explanation of how to win a game

Write a paragraph that explains how to win any game, (board game, card game, or a sport game). It should be a game you are familiar with. The paragraph should be an informational process analysis. Therefore, you are telling your audience how to win the game, not how to play the game. For example, explain how the game of monopoly can be won by choosing a method, such as being the banker or cheating. Then, explain how this method enables players to win. The words “players” with “they” will help students avoid using “you.”

The paragraph should consist of a well-developed paragraph, which means: you need a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence (clincher). The paragraph should be unified and coherent with specific supporting details or examples for support. It should provide sentence variety (simple, compound, and complex sentences). The sentences should be clear, concise, and arranged in a logical order. Transitional words and phrases should be used to provide coherence. Choose one point of view: first, second, or third person. The pronouns will be I, he or she, they, but not “you.” If the paragraph is correctly prepared as informational, it tells the rules of the game or sport, but not in a conversational way.  The pronoun “you” and the imperative verb form should be avoided.

Students are asked to post a rough draft, a final draft, and two or more responses to their classmates’ postings.
