Summarize 15 articles that provide substantive answers to the research question

Focus on summarizing the key point or points but use complete sentences

Don’t just list a bunch of topics. This is particularly true of articles that say “here are the none things….”. DO NOT list the none things. Summarize and synthesize what the none things say taken as a whole. What’s the main point of the article.

3. Ten Trends - Synthesize (Max 1 Page)

Synthesize the materials across the 15 articles into the top 10 trends

This means using critical thinking skills to see higher level similarities. The trends are not simply a recounting of the summary, unless the summary is already synthesized

4. Top Three (Max 1 Page). Many get a B or less on the first paper….why?

This is where you give your opinion (not before), based on sound reasoning and your personal response

Choose 3 trends from your table above that you think are the most important

Explain your logic for choosing the three. What are the Specific reasons? Measurable reasons? This will come from the readings.

Explain your personal application. This will be how you think you could personally apply this to work or life in general.

On the Personal application for top 3. Envision changes you could make or recommend in the next 30 to 90 days. Things that apply to your life and work. I am looking for you to carry what you outside of the classroom and into your life. You don’t need to implement, but it should be something you could implement given the resources. Think small. You don’t need to solve world hunger. An accumulation of small changes eventually accumulate into positive improvements on a grander scale.

Section 1 – Summary - Literature Review (2 Pages Max)

In this section you must find articles that answer or have a bearing on answering the question. Summarize how the article answers the research question. Summarization extracts the key elements of the article regarding the research question. The key is to provide a good summary of the key points made by the author that answer the research question. If the article does not have some bearing on the answer, the article should not be in your reference list. Your goal is to answer the research question. That’s it. You must provide 15 articles, 2 of which must be peer reviewed (Note those in your summary). Put the APA citation in that column. The full APA reference will be in your references list in Section 4. Do not change the font. It’s 12 point Times New Roman and must stay that way.

In this section synthesize and abstract across the multiple articles. In other words, if there are articles on SCRUM, Kanban, and Extreme Programming, these would be synthesized under Agile. Synthesizing is a higher order thinking process than summarizing. Synthesizing looks for patterns and common elements and typically involves abstraction to a higher level.

Section 3 – Application - Top Three from Synthesis (Max 1 Page)

Now that you have summarized and synthesized the material concerning what others say about the research question, you want to apply the most important lessons to your life. Choose the top 3 you think are the most important to you from the synthesized topics. Then discuss two areas for each:

1 - Your logic: Why do you think this is important? What is your reasoning based on what you read?

2 - Your application: What does this mean to you at work? What does it mean to you in your life outside of work? This is where you consider how what you learned could be incorporated into your life. This should be forward thinking. I will do….I will act…I will think through with a view toward changing…As you come up with an application be sure to apply SMART mentally.
