HOW MUCH
Keep in mind that most employers will skim resumes to select candidates that stand out from the pack. Employers assume that the letter and resume represent your best work. Therefore, a resume and cover letter must accomplish the following:
- Describe the value you bring to your future employer.
- Deliver essential details concisely to appeal to a busy manager.
- Reflect your understanding of the company's priorities and the requirements of the job.
- Emphasize your competitive strengths, qualifications, and leadership qualities.
- Use a winning tone. Avoid sounding self-important or entitled.
- Support your list of previous employment with specific duties/tasks and accomplishments.
- Use your cover letter to describe why you would be a good fit and how you plan to be an asset to the organization.
Remember, a convincing cover letter secures an interview, so present yourself as the best candidate for the job.
Use any resume format you think is appropriate.
