Trace Minerals Diet Analysis
1. Describe two differences in trace and major minerals. (10 pts)
2. Examine your average intake of trace minerals. Which trace minerals were less than 75% of your personal DRI? (See Intakes vs Goals Report) (5 pts)
3. Explain at least one potential consequence of long-term deficiency for each trace mineral in which your intake didn’t meet at least 75% of your personal DRI. If you met at least 75% of the RDA for all trace minerals, choose one mineral and explain two potential consequences for deficiency. Include in your explanation what mineral function is compromised that causes these symptoms of deficiency disease. (20 pts)

4. For each trace mineral in which you didn’t meet at least 75% of your personal DRI, provide an example of a food source to improve your intake. (10 pts)
5. Which trace minerals did you consume at least 75% of your personal DRI? (See Intake vs Goals Report) (5 pts)
a. List the Tolerable Upper Limit (UL) for each trace mineral that was 75% or more of your personal DRI. Did your intake exceed the UL for any of these minerals? (See Table of Tolerable Upper Limit (UL) Levels for Minerals in the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) appendix of the textbook) (15 pts)
b. Describe the functions served in the body and at least one potential consequence of exceeding the UL for each mineral listed in part a. (15 pts)
c. List one food you consumed that contributed to your intake of each mineral listed in part a. (10 pts)
7. Choose one food from the days that you recorded that contains either an absorption enhancer or an absorption enhancer for a trace mineral and explain how this food affects absorption of the mineral you chose. (10 pts)
