For the final component of your capstone, you will write a brief essay in which you will discuss the process and outcomes of this project, as well as how your coursework contributed to the completion of the capstone project. This may include discussions of unforeseen problems or obstacles, and any unexpected surprises. The essay should also discuss the strengths and problems that you encountered while completing the project. Finally, the essay will examine how the capstone project will be useful in exploring the job market or furthering your education.
You should envision this component as a personal reflection on the capstone and your experience in the Sport Management program as a whole. For instance, relative to the capstone, you could discuss what you did (or intended to do), and then consider what worked well, what challenges you faced, and what you would change or do differently to make your experience better. In reflecting on your time here at SNHU, you might discuss where you started, where you are now, and where you see yourself going. Note that this component is not about evaluating the capstone itself but rather your experience with the capstone project.
Some of the issues that you could address in this final component of the capstone project may include the following:

Capstone Component 3: Professional Reflection
The capstone experience has been a rewarding one. The opportunity to employ the
lessons I have learned throughout this program we invaluable as I progressed through this
capstone course. I enjoyed working on my final project throughout this course and being able to
have it focus on a topic that is prevalent to today’s sports world was truly beneficial.
When considering a future in the sport management field, I started looking at different
organizations and clubs. One that especially stood out, and one I joined as a student member, was
the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM). This is an organization that
whose purpose “shall be to promote, stimulate, and encourage study, research, scholarly writing,
and professional development in the area of sport management [ CITATION Pur00 \l 1033 ].”
The NASSM’s official research journal, the Journal of Sport Management, is published
to provide innovative empirical, theoretical and review articles focused on the governance,
management, and marketing of sport organizations [ CITATION NAS21 \l 1033 ].
The NASSM hosts an annual conference, usually in the summer season, with workshops
and symposiums, including a symposium for students. This is a great opportunity for members of
the NASSM to take part in roundtable discussions, attend talks, and network with other
members. This conference, and indeed the entire organization, is a perfect opportunity for
individuals like me to expand their professional sport management network and build positive
relationships with like-minded professionals.
Professionally speaking, in the short-term, I intend to stay in my current position with my
current company. I will, however, ensure my resume is updated and will begin looking into jobs
in the sports industry. I already have a profile on TeamWorkOnline.com an JobsInSports.com.

Capstone Component 3: Professional Reflection
I do have some concerns about the possibility of breaking into the field. I have seen a
large number of jobs posted online that are for unpaid internships or entry-level positions. I am at
a point in my life where I am not wanting to, or needing to, work as an intern. I do not think I
should be hired in a director level position or even as a general manager for a franchise (not that
I would decline it) but starting in season ticket sales in not the ideal situation.
I think that utilizing social media networks such as Twitter and LinkedIn to build
connections with individuals in the sports industry is a good first step, as was joining the
NASSM. Building rudimentary relationships with individuals in the industry through LinkedIn
by reading articles they share and commenting on them with intelligent responses will go a long
way towards establishing these new connections.
I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to have attended SNHU and pursue an
advanced degree in a field that has had my attention since I was a child. Learning about the ins-
and-outs of the sports industry, sport marketing, facility management, and other related areas has
given me a new perspective on the industry and given me tools that I can use in my current job
and any future jobs I have that might not even be in the sports industry.
I look forward to the opportunity to one day share my experiences with future SNHU
sport management program students and maybe even do it as an adjunct professor. Who knows
that the future holds?
