Plagiarism Pledge - please be aware access to the submission point for summative assessment will only be available to you following successful completion of the short plagiarism pledge, as visible in the assessment folder on each module page.

You are required to submit a 3,500-word essay. A set of essay questions will be provided, and students will select one question. Students are required to use both primary and secondary sources to test arguments in the essay. This allows students to demonstrate acquisition of knowledge, analytical capacity and research skills on specific topics. This enables them to demonstrate that they have sufficient subject knowledge and understanding to meet the assessment criteria

Deadline: 12 noon,  14th March 2024

Essays should be typed with font 12 with the word count stated under the essay title.

Summative submission instructions and further information

Names should NOT be written anywhere on Summative essays. Anonymous code number is available via Banner Self-Service. Summative essays must be uploaded on the Module Site.

Marks for summative essays will not be given until after the Final Examination Boards in June. The School does not disclose marks. Students must access the pass lists and their assessment marks through Banner Self-Service.

As these essays are equivalent to exams, all deadlines are final. Extensions of the deadlines for these pieces are granted only in exceptional cases and must be approved in advance ONLY by the Chair or Secretary of the Board of Examiners. The extension application for Summative should go through the SGIA website, under ‘Current Students’ and ‘Summative Assessment Extension Request Forms’.

Detection of plagiarism is facilitated by use of the Turnitin software, which compares students’ work with the content of more than six million websites and on-line documents, identifying similarities and overlap as well as direct, verbatim quotations.

You MUST submit one electronic copy only of your summative assignment by 12:00 noon (unless otherwise stated) on the deadline date. It is a University regulation that any work submitted late without an extension but within five working days of the deadline will have the mark capped at the pass mark. Work submitted more than five working days after the deadline will receive a mark of ZERO.  Please note we do not require submission of paper copies of any assignments (unless otherwise notified).
