There are belief's or arguments that self-contained programs for ED students are a bad idea. The main argument really are: 1) students with social/emotional/behavioral problems are placed in a room with peers who also have similar problems/needs and just pick up more, different, or worse problematic behaviors, and 2) when we place students with social/emotional/behavioral needs in one setting they never have a chance to engage in social or observational learning of appropriate behavior.
