• Who is the leader of the country? How long have they been in power? What type of government does the country have?
• Was the country ever colonized? If so, by whom? When did they achieve independence?
• Has the country been a part of any wars (civil or international) in the past 50 years? When did they occur? What were they about?
• What are the major industries in the country? What can you figure out about how their economy is organized (free market, planned, etc.)?
• Have there been any major economic crises in the country? If so, when? Can you tell what happened?
