Assignment Directions

· Create a PowerPoint using 12 to 14 slides on one of the below topics:

· Present the required information to give an overview of the topic.

· In addition, address any controversies or other issues.

· Cite at least four resources at the end that you used to support your work, using APA formatting in the reference slide. In-text citation is not required.

· Include a title slide and an ending reference slide.

· Study the grading rubric to see how your work will be graded.

Topic Choices (Choose one prompt only).

Prompt 1: Stress versus Trauma

(LO-1.1, LO-1.2. LO-1.3, LO-4)

Slide Topics:

· Differentiate between the concepts of stress and trauma.

· Explain why understanding the difference can be helpful to support children.

· Describe the general psychological and physiological effects of stress and trauma upon children.

· Explain Trauma Informed Care (TIC), its core principles, and why it helps children recover from trauma and extreme stress.

· Outline at least three examples of practices/strategies that support the TIC framework. Identify the principles in each example. (Note: At times, more than one principle can be applied to a strategy)

Prompt 2: Displacement: Protective Factors and Systems of Support

(LO-2.1, LO-2.2, LO-2.3)

Slide Topics:

· Define and explain at least two types of displacements.

· Provide an overview of the psychological impacts on children.

· Identify protective factors (under Family, Community, and Systems) that help children cope with displacement trauma.

· Explain at least one example of implementing or fostering a protective factor under each section of Family, Community, and Systems (a minimum of three examples in total).

Prompt 3: Maltreatment: Protective Factors and Systems of Support

LO-3.1, LO-3.2, LO-3.3

Slide Topics:

· Define and explain at least two types of maltreatment.

· Provide an overview of the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical developmental impacts on children.

· Outline the Strengthening Families Framework and the protective factors this framework advocates for development within families.

· Explain at least three examples of how professionals can work to build these protective factors within a school and/or community.

· Submit a PowerPoint presentation containing 12 to 14 slides.
