Running head: [Shortened Title up to 50 Characters] 1
[Shortened Title up to 50 Characters] 9
[Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines]
[Your Name]
[Your class section and date]
[double space and use 12 point font throughout your paper]
Introduction
[2 paragraphs, first paragraph purpose of study, second paragraph demographic information on your learner]
Observation / Interview
[1-2 paragraphs with your observations of learner using English in any setting where the learner normally uses English, such as school or work. OR an interview with the learner about their challenges and experiences using English. Also your comments on what you observed or heard from your learner]
Pre-test
[show and describe pre-test you have given the learner along with scored results (use a rubric, do not give a multiple-choice test). These can be very informal pre-tests – see the How to Pass module for examples. Please only do one or two, focus on speaking and listening for at least one, you can use a LAF activity as a pre-test if you make a rubric for it, add scored rubric]
Action Plan
[1-2 paragraph action plan here. This should include the SLA theory you are basing your interactions with learner on (interactionist, social interactionist, or something along those lines -not behaviorist as that would be contrary to what you are learning in this class). Name the theory, explain it and cite the researcher(s) who talk about it. This section can include the work of Vygotsky and Krashen but not only Vygotsky and Krashen. This is because Vygotsky was talking about first, not second language acquisition and Krashen was not an interactionist, he talked about comprehensible input and the monitor model. The interactionists built on both of these theorists but they themselves are not interactionist so be careful to cite correctly. Once you have named, explained, and cited the SLA theory correctly (see chapter 2 LAF and module 2 online) then you should connect that theory to what you will be doing with your learner in a couple of sentences. Do not name every activity you will do here, just say how this theory is related to what you will be doing with your learner.]
Implementation
[your implementation starts with your first meeting with the learner where you are working on LAF activities, after you completed the sections above. Remember you need to meet with learner a minimum of 8 times totaling 10 hours. Ideally you will do 2-3 LAF activities each time you meet. If done correctly, each meeting description with artifact should be approximately one page of your document. That would include your activity description, comments and an artifact. You may use the table below and fill it in or not use the table, it is your choice.]
Meeting 1
Date:Name of Activities from LAF book:Note if you are adapting for content and what content you adapted for
Description [describe & follow all steps of activity or explain modification. Do not modify or change steps if that leads to less interaction. If working with one student only, you are the interacting partner and you take turns back and forth so learner gets full benefit of interactions over time. You do not need to write out all steps of the activity if you are using the LAF book – make sure you describe HOW you adapted for content if you did so]
Artifact
[insert your picture, video clip, or other documentation here. You may leave this blank a few times but you should have proof for most of your meetings]
OR
Name of your own created LAF activity with steps that demonstrate LAF characteristics
[include whether activity was adapted for your content area – minimum of two adapted activities required] [insert your picture, video clip, or other documentation here. You may leave this blank a few times but you should have proof for most of your meetings] |

Meeting Three
|
|
Meeting Four
|
|
Etc….minimum of 8 meetings
|
POST-TEST
[show and describe post-test you have given the learner along with scored results (use a rubric, do not give a multiple choice test). Make sure the post-test is identical to the pre-test in terms of what you ask the student to do. If you are asking to describe a picture you can change the picture, but the skills needed should be same for both. You can use a LAF activity as a post-test if you made a rubric for it and used it as a pre-test]
CRITIQUE
[1-2 paragraphs. In this section you think back on what you did and how you could have done it better. Mention what worked well, and what worked less well and how you have had more success had you modified, modeled, adapted differently, listened to your learner, followed steps more closely or other. This is a critique of your performance, not your learner]
REFLECTION
[2-4 paragraphs. In this section start by reflecting on the experience as a whole and how it can inform and support your teaching and/or counseling career. Then state explicitly and with examples how you met ESOL standard 3.2 by referencing how you did that with your minimum or two adapted to content area activities. Also mention how you used the other four domains in your case study. You do not need to cite specific standards here or have met specific standards but mention each domain at least once]
SIGNED CONSENT
[this must be signed by learner, parent of learner if a minor or supervising teacher]
This is to certify that FIU TSL student, [ your name here], worked with, [learner’s name here], an English language learner over the course of several weeks with 8-12 meetings in total. The work done was intended help with the English language acquisition of the learner, and in completion of the PEACE Project Case Study for TSL 4324/5361C. I have looked over the completed summary of the project presented here and can affirm that everything included in this summary is true and accurate.

Signature of Supervising Teacher, Adult Learner or Parent of ELL Child

REFERENCES [include at least 3 references if you are an undergraduate student and make sure your references are in alphabetical order and follow APA or MLA format. If you are a grad student here is where you put your annotated bibliography with at least 5 references. ** You must include the course text as one of the references and can also include any webpage from the course that you used as a reference ] Eg.) Last Name, F. M. (Year). Article Title. Journal Title, Pages From - To. Last Name, F. M. (Year). Book Title. City Name: Publisher Name.
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
[This is for grad students enrolled in TSL 5361C only. Include at least five full APA style references with an annotation of each, approximately one paragraph in length. See examples of annotated bibs online if you have never done one. Make sure at least three of your references are from sources you found outside of this class that informed your case study in terms of the action plan or other.]
