Review recent research on the topic of police officers’ job satisfaction, including the factors that have the most impact on job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Also look at the types of calls that are often highly problematic for law enforcement officers: those involving mentally ill citizens. Provide a summary of the results of your research. Discuss possible solutions for addressing the factors most highly associated with police officers’ job dissatisfaction. Include a discussion of whether calls involving mentally ill persons should be handled by specially trained mental-health professionals rather than police officers, one of the suggestions in the “defund the police” platform.
