My previous understanding of the awareness of the religious provisions contained in this

national mandate wasn’t high at all. I honestly thought when it came to public school religious

was something you didn’t force on no one or judge any about religion, especially if a teacher

tries to lead students in any type of religion prayer or etc. Then when it came to private schools,

they could do whatever they want because they go by their own rules.

I did understand the legal requirements NCLB protecting these religious but it just

something that we had to go through this process to be able to have prayer in school. I don’t

agree with teachers not being able to lead the prayer is wrong. I had a pastor for a teacher when I

was in high school. I feel we missed out on opportunities to learn from our teacher while learning

in school. It is good that students can lead prayer but can also get the opportunity to express their

religion if their religion recalls for them to do so at a certain time.

Appomattox County Public Schools took the neutral approach about religion within the

schools. I think when it comes to the current legal precedents, I feel Appomattox County Public

Schools took the neutral standpoint because it is the safe way to go. Appomattox County Public

Schools accept diversity, in which that leads to a dynamic culture for the students and staff. Also,

there is a zero tolerance for disrespect towards anyone religion.

Overall, this discussion was eye opening for me because I always thought religion was

something we didn’t touch or discuss at the public-school level and private schools can approach

religion however they want to approach it. If I had my opinion about this situation religion

should be able to be led by teachers, students and anyone in the school but it can’t be forced on

anyone or made a priority to integrate into the daily lesson. We all need religion, and we must get

closer with our creator. Life is too short, and we must appreciate all the time we have together.
