MAKE SURE YOU THOROUGHLY RESPOND TO ALL ELEMENTS OF THE QUESTION.

YOUR INITIAL POST SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF five(5) FULL PARAGRAPHS REFERENCING THE COURSE MATERIALS AND ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES

Sociologists encourage us to examine external influences on behavior--not just focusing on internal mental states such as prejudice, as psychologists might do, but also on outcomes of overall patterns and processes. In the video "Racism in America: What Would You Do?" a number of people describe their mental states as unprejudiced and unfocused on race. However, the end result of the 911 calls was clearly racially patterned.

Think about whether you have ever participated in a racist outcome without being aware of it. In other words, your mental state was not focused on race, but you may have contributed to a racially segregated situation or excluded others without realizing it. If you cannot think of any from your own life, choose something from the news. Keep in mind that some actors may use a colorblind defense to cover things up after the fact, but try to focus on an example where seemingly genuine intent to be neutral, objective and fair results in racially unequal outcomes, of which participants may not even at first be aware. Strive to apply some of this module's key concepts—racism, prejudice, nonracist and colorblindness—in your answer, making sure to cite course readings for accurate definitions of terms. Keep in mind that sources like Wikipedia, Webster's dictionary, Thought.com and other non-social-science sources will likely have incorrect definitions, so stay focused on course materials.
