1

Rubric and Guidelines

Use a peer-reviewed, empirical article

Has intro, method, results and discussion sections

Has a question and hypotheses that are tested

Content

Summarize

Background literature -> in the intro section

Hypotheses -> usually toward the end of the intro section

Results -> in the results section

Conclusions -> in the discussion section

Were cultural variables acknowledged in a meaningful way? How so? Or how could culture be acknowledged meaningfully?

Implications

Can also be helpful to look at the implications in the discussion section

Other things to note

Make sure to use APA format

2

Dos and Don’ts

DO

Check with me or the TA to make sure your article is appropriate for the assignment

Use the rubric/project description while writing up your paper

Use the template provided in Blackboard

Paraphrase and cite appropriately

DON’T

Start too close to the deadline

Use a review or meta-analysis or dissertation/thesis

Copy instead of summarize

Critique the article (e.g., “This is a good article. I think the way they wrote and summarized the article was efficient.”

Use long or excessive quotes (even if cited) directly from the article. Doing so will flag your paper for plagiarism.
