Punishment of criminal offenders has been a highly debated topic for many decades. An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth punishment indicates that punishment should be similar to the harm caused. When judges impose a form of punishment, they try to balance the sentence with the reasoning that reflects previous behavior or consistency with state and federal laws.
