In this journal assignment, consider the role of community outreach coordinator and that of the other allied professionals you have read about in this module. Then, answer each of the following:

  • How do these roles support criminal justice professionals?
  • What do you see as the benefits to criminal justice professionals?

Overview

The issue of sanctuary cities in the United States presents an interesting case in jurisdiction. In this assignment, you will review sources that present a specific case of sanctuary cities in the United States and complete a template that outlines the main components of the conflict. Planning and developing prototypes is an important professional skill, and this will help to illustrate connections between law enforcement, court systems, and cases, and how they function together.

In Module Two, you learned about how law enforcement functions; in Module Three, you learned about the courts. This assignment will assist you as you begin to create presentation materials for Project Two. Complete the template using the provided Module Four Assignment Template Word Document. Use this document to illustrate the specific functions and processes of law enforcement and court systems, as well as how they work together in a specific case. Following the template, you will find a few follow-up questions. Answer each question in two to five sentences, and use examples from the resources to support your responses. These should elaborate on the information presented in your template.

Law Enforcement

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

  • Explain how the rule of law influences professional practice in criminal justice

Scenario

You are a community outreach coordinator at your local law enforcement agency. The department has undertaken an initiative to reach out to diverse populations in your community. There is always a need in your community for support toward becoming a citizen. For example, numerous recent immigrants, resident aliens, and documented immigrants could all benefit from outreach materials that explain how the criminal justice system works in the United States. You have been given the task of creating outreach materials for this initiative. The materials you’ll create for this project are specific to the rule of law and the Constitution.

Directions

Initiative Materials Your initiative needs professional materials to support it. Create one or more relevant products that address all of the required elements:

  1. Describe how the Constitution guides law enforcement practice and policy. Include the following:
    • A brief overview of the Constitution
      1. Purpose of the document
