EXERCISE 1: NEUTRALIZATION

In this simulated laboratory exercise, you will learn how to properly neutralize and dispose of an acidic solution. Strong acids can damage plumbing and the environment, so they must be netraulized before they can be rinsed of down the drain. This procedure will be part of any laboratory clean-up involving left-over acid that needs to be discarded.

PROCEDURE

1. Click on the link to the Neutralization Digital Exercise (in the Materials box above).

2. Follow the instructions and prompts on the screen to start the exercise.

3. Fill in the information in Tables 1 and 2 on the Exercise 3 Data Sheet while you walk through the digital exercise.

4. After you complete the exercise, answer the Post-Lab questions.
