Types of Prophetic Fulfillment Activity

Completion requirements

In light of this week’s reading and viewing, especially pages 110–113 of Bock’s article and Glenny’s video, examine the New Testament use of the Old Testament prophecy in the following texts:

· Acts 2:16-21 (quoting Joel 2:28-32)

· Matthew 2:15 (quoting Hosea 11:1)

· Matthew 2:6 (quoting Micah 5:2)

For each New Testament passage, list examples of the three types of elements below, with 1-2 sentences justifying the observation as that type (referring to Bock and Glenny as needed):

· Prophetic elements that may be present (note Bock's article, pages 110-113)

· Typological elements that may be present (note Bock, pages 110-113)

· Exhortative or pastoral elements that may be present.

For the first two categories above (prophetic and typological), you will notice that on pages 110-113 of Bock's article that he delineates several different types of prophetic fulfillment, and many of those include both of these terms to indicate one type. Be sure you understand the terms "prophetic" and "typological" before making your conclusions.
