Among the most important tools in a professional setting are collaborative goal setting and action planning. These tools assist with:

Identifying areas of improvement

Developing a plan of achievement

Moving the plan into action

Providing motivation until the goal is reached

Development and successful execution of goals will be an integral part of your role as a healthcare manager.

Case Assignment

Read the following article:

Suppose these five challenges are affecting the department that you oversee/manage at your organization. Develop a 7- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation (PPT) that you can share with your department giving an overview of 1 short-term goal and 1 long-term goal for each challenge. Your goals should be developed using the SMART goal technique (http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/opi/qi/toolbox/objectives.html).

Module 2 - SLP

SHORT- AND LONG-TERM GOALS

Continue to build upon the strategic plan. Update your strategic plan based on your instructor’s feedback from your Module 1 SLP submission. Once the update is completed, add the following sections to your strategic plan in 2–3 pages:

Strategic Plan Timeline: In this section (1 paragraph), identify a realistic timeline for the accomplishment of your plan. You should state the expected start and end dates.

Short-Term Goals: Identify 2 or 3 measurable short-term goals for your strategic plan and the anticipated date/duration to meet these goals. These can be provided in bullet point form.

Long-Term Goals: Identify 2 or 3 measurable long-term goals for your strategic plan and the anticipated date/duration to meet these goals. These can be provided in bullet point form.

Operational Plan: In this section, further explain your short- and long-term goals. Explain your “road map” to completion of these goals, and match an “activity” to each “goal.” Essentially, the activity is the action taken to reach the goal.
