question: Most of us have heard or read about differences in other countries and cultures. Many of our classmates may be from other countries and cultures. Discuss some of these differences and how they affect business.

students reply

When conducting business overseas, there are many things to consider but one most important is the home country’s culture.  For instance, even when conducting business with neighboring country Mexico, verbal contracts mean just as much as written contracts.  Many business transactions take place outside the office where the Mexican culture truly gets an idea of what type of transaction istaking place.  Interestingly enough, when conducting business in Italy, schedules seem to not exist.  Timelines are more of a suggestion where as in America, timelines not achieved usually equate to negative annotations.  These factors must be taken into consideration when conducting business overseas and managers are highly encouraged to conduct as much research about the country as possible before entering into business.
