For much of American history people had been moving farther west. What was different or new about “westward expansion’ in this period? What is Manifest Destiny and what was its relation to this movement? What are the factors that motivated Americans to give up what they had and move farther west and establish new lives? What factors “pushed” Americans westward and which factors “pulled” them there?
