The characteristics and actions of leaders have an enormous influence on the effectiveness of organizations and the engagement of the members of the organization. After studying this week’s readings respond to each of the following learning activities:

Learning Activity 1

Select an organizational leader for whom you have worked or a business leader about whom there is sufficient information online or in other sources. Identify the type of leader this individual represents as described in the readings (e.g. transformational, charismatic, pseudo charismatic, etc.). Cite specific examples of actions and characteristics to justify your characterization. Identify this leader’s impact on you in terms of your motivation, dedication, engagement and desire to support his or her goals and those of the organization.

Learning Activity 2

Referring to the same leader you identified in Learning Activity 1, identify the type of power exercised by this leader (e.g. positional, referent, etc.).What relationship do you believe existed between the type of leader this individual was or is, as identified in LA1, and the type of power he or she resorted to. What impact did the exercise of this type of power have on the effectiveness of the organization and the motivation of its members? Combine your responses to these learning activities into one original post and remember to respond to at least two of your colleagues.
