Choosing the Correct Statistical Test Worksheet
Directions: Review your chapter readings and the following resources found in Topic 6 Resources: Choosing the Right Statistical Test: Types and Examples and An Introduction to Statistics: Choosing the Correct Statistical Test, then walk through the tree diagram and answer the following questions.
1. Identify your research question. Identify the type of research question you are investigating – difference between groups or an association between variables. Do this for each research question.
2. Identify how many groups you are analyzing (1, 2, 3+). (For example, if you are looking at the association between trauma and anxiety, you are using one group and looking at the relationship between those two variables in one group, If you are comparing the difference between individuals with ADHD to those without ADHD in terms of anxiety, you are analyzing two groups).
3. Identify what type of data you are analyzing (nominal, ordinal, interval/ratio). You must do this for each of your main variables.
4. Identify what type of design are you using (between-subjects experimental, within-subjects experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational).
5. Describe what type of statistical test (analysis) you think will be appropriate and why based on your proposed design. You will need to identify one statistical test for each hypothesis.
