  You will use the short essays attached as a basis for researching the specific genre of writing focusing on the criteria of the genre, audience appreciation, and purpose. ( examine the NYT editorial in reference to other examples and then revise the original based on the criteria discussed.) 

As such, paper should  essentially have two parts: research/examination of a specific genre and revised the short essay. 

You can divide the 7 pages any way that you like. You can have 5 pages of a revised essay and then 2 pages discussing the changes that you are making and why you have made them. Your discussion of the changes should consider the genre (NYT editorial, ) as well as what  about ethos, pathos, and logos as well as concise writing and revision.
