DQ15: Why Are Innocent People Convicted?

After reviewing the materials in the lesson (presentation, articles, the documentary on wrongful convictions and prosecutorial misconduct conference):

• Select someone who was exonerated and released from prison over the past few decades (1980-2020).
• What specifically led to their wrongful conviction?
• How did they end up getting exonerated?
• What was the process to get them exonerated?
• Have they been compensated?  if they have not been compensated explain why.  Discuss the compensation policies in the state where they were exonerated.  If they have been compensate, explain the details of their compensation.
• What has the exoneree been doing since his/her release?

Make sure to:

• Write a short essay or paragraph of at least 500 words.
• Use concrete examples/details and avoid generalities.
• Address all questions.
• Use proper grammar and punctuation.
• If you researched your topic and are using information from what you learned, remember to cite your sources.
• Do not plagiarize.
