Written Interview Questions - PhD IT

1. What are your research interests in the area of Information Technology? Why do u think it is important to research in this area?

A. In this Digital Age, Information is a currency. Within seconds, terabytes of data travel around the world and run countries, corporations changing lives. It is crucial to have a system that is capable to maintain this ever-growing data efficiently and effectively. Working in this field for the past 3 years, I think, there’ll be more challenging times ahead of us to store/manage and transfer data. There is a lot of scope for betterment and innovation in current software development and information systems managing areas. I want to be part of the innovative process that as a society we are trying to achieve for a better future.

2. Why did you select to pursue a program at University of the Cumberlands instead of other institutions?

A. Course curriculum at University of the Cumberlands supports my career to become a data architect in the near future. University provides first-class education while encouraging real-time experience. Courses offered helps me with a future project in my current company, dealing with migrating definite data storages to virtual/cloud storage. This involves real-time decision making, scientific discoveries, Cybersecurity, etc. which allows me to gain knowledge offered by courses at University of the Cumberlands. It is one of the top Universities providing dissertation seminar and advanced research methods. I feel this would strengthen my skills in project design and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.

3. As an individual, what are your strengths and weaknesses? How will these impact you as a doctoral information technology student?

A. One of the key aspects that I am proud to have inculcated from a very young age is trying to understand how things work and improve them. I believe, this attitude inspires me to aim for betterment on every aspect of life. Occasionally, I end up spending more time than needed, as I do not give up on anything that easily. This sometimes becomes my weakness in certain situations. I think, my quest to understand how things work leads me to become a good researcher. That said, I look forward to the guidance in selecting and prioritizing my research tasks to maintain a work-life balance.

4. Where do you see the future of Information Technology heading?

A. With current trends, Information will continue to dominate everyday lives for the foreseeable future. In spite of current challenges, storage and transfer of data to corners of the world will be accomplished. Artificial Intelligence would play an important role in controlling data transfer, data privacy and business growth. I feel cloud computing is going to be the driving force for future technological development. Data will become more fluid, accessible and more importantly intelligent.

5. How can obtaining a doctorate impact your contribution to the practices of information technology? Where do you see yourself after obtaining a doctorate from UC?

A. A doctorate at hand would widen my career choices drastically as most industries these days are looking for out-of-the-box problem-solving skills. I think I can learn more advanced techniques that could be applied in diverse fields. Especially with my interests being in Data Analysis/Management, a doctorate would provide me not only the theoretical concepts but would improve my skills towards the application side of it. The doctorate program provides me a platform to research trends and discover better solutions for current Information Technology issues. I hope to change the way IT is currently being practiced.
