WRITING YOUR COMPANY BACKGROUND AND HR STRATEGY DRAFT

I know that you are preparing your Company Background and HR Strategy Draft, and I look forward to seeing everybody’s draft by the end of the week. The following are some ideas that I hope will be useful.

First, review those documents in the Files section of the Course Menu that speak to the role of metrics and their linkages to strategy. There are many excellent academic journals that have identified the revolution in HR that is moving away from traditional functional deliverables to strategic outcomes that have causal links to business success. Among these are human resource management and human resource planning. Both offer current best practices and thoughts on how to market the transformative role of HR. SHRM also offers great topical content toward this end. The three classic texts of The Balanced Scorecard, The HR Scorecard, and The Workforce Scorecard are probably the best references any practitioner should have in his or her personal library.

Second, review the literature on strategic differentiation, as well as the Dutch article on culture and HR strategy. Visit the Keller Online library and research ideas about different HR cultural options, and let’s discuss those this week in our discussion as well.

Good luck, and if you have any questions, please make sure to get in touch with me as soon as possible.

COMPANY BACKGROUND AND HR STRATEGY DRAFTS

Two members of your team should work on these sections—one each. The entire team, however, should contribute to the decisions on HR strategy, culture, and choice of metric method. These decisions will impact the whole project. The drafts are due at the end of this week. Please consolidate the two pieces into one submission.

The team leader for your group must submit the completed Company Background and HR Strategy drafts for grading. Make sure you include the names of all team members assigned to your team on the title page of your submission. Use the template for this submission (and all submissions).

See the Course Project Overview page in the Introduction & Resources Module for more details on this Course Project deliverable. Also, see the Grading Rubric and Course Project Template in the Files section of the Course Menu.
