INSTRUCTIONS:
Park Ranger Public Relations has been hired by Homer Simpson to promote a new sport known as Snow Triad. Simpson is founder and president of a nonprofit organization, More Olympic Sports Foundation (MOSF). Your job is to develop public relations materials to support his new sport. (Additional details can be found in the SS18 Scenario Brief on D2L.)
In Writing Project 1, we developed a blog post to raise awareness of Snow Triad. In Writing Project 2, we drafted a letter to Sue Sylvester, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), informing her of the success of Snow Triad in Park City, Utah. In Writing Project 3 and 5, we developed a news release to introduce Snow Triad to the news media and announce the 15th competition at Utah Olympic Park. In Writing Project 6, we announced Snow Triad was adopted as an official Olympic sport and announced the spokesperson for Snow Triad is Ashley Caldwell, U.S. Olympic aerial skier and World Championship gold medalist. She will also attend the event to award the winners.
Your task for Writing Project 8 is to
revise
your Writing Project 6 news release. Use the edits and comments from your editor(s) and Instructor, plus anything you’ve learned since then, to improve your release that announces Snow Triad as an Olympic sport and Caldwell as the spokesperson.
Just so we are clear, the assignment is exactly the same as Writing Project 6. You are producing a second draft of the release described below.
To succeed, your news release must reflect the format and style elements described in your textbook and discussed in class.
Your release must
· announce Snow Triad is now an official Olympic sport and will debut at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing
· announce Ashley Caldwell as the celebrity spokesperson and will attend the Olympics to award medals to the winners
· briefly describe MOSF
· briefly describe Snow Triad
· include a quote from Simpson, Sylvester and Caldwell
· include supporting detail for quotes
Other considerations:
· Remember the inverted pyramid.
· Remember that you can invent quotes for your speakers. In this case, you have no choice.
· Remember who your target audience is.
· Remember the news voice and attribution.
· Remember to use AP style.
