In the preface to “The Job Ghetto”, McIntyre quotes one of her students’ opinions on poverty and unemployment. The student states:

If people want to bad enough, they can get a job and make something of themselves. It might not be a good job, but at least it’s a job. No one has to be poor in this society.

After having read chapters 12 and 13 in the Core Concepts book, along with the articles listed above, how would you respond to this student? Be sure to demonstrate that you possess a sociological imagination and to include informed judgments that address racial, class, and gender inequality.
