This week, you'll turn in your last assignments for the class and take the final exam. The exam is an essay broadly based on the question that has been addressed in all the Discussion paragraphs and essays related to the course readings: what is world literature? You will have 1 hour and 1 attempt to answer this question. Remember to begin a literary essay with a clear reference to the title of the epic poem, essay, or story (in quotes or italics, depending on whether you have a "story" or an epic poem). The first paragraph must contain a thesis statement (not a question) that specifically focuses readers’ attention on your argument. The body paragraphs contain smooth transitional sentences related to the thesis and give specific details and examples for the main points (here’s where a quote may appear to prove your opinion). The conclusion makes a final point about your thesis and connects to your title. Always include a clever title to suggest the direction of your thesis or main idea.
