The concept of retail competition (QING) (can someone help to elaborate about the type of retail competition)

Xxx years ago, there were only a few fashion outlets that could be found in Malaysia’s shopping malls such as Padini, Adidas, H&M, Uniqlo and more. There are not many options for consumers to choose from compared with today’s fashion industry. Nowadays consumers have a wide range of options to choose from and most of the young people prefer to purchase clothes online. For example brands like TNTCO, DR MISTER CLOTHING, Glam Div., ADLV and more.  The increased number of fashion outlets indicates the high intensity of retail competition in today’s fashion industry. There are several types of retail competition……

Impacts of sales forecasting in fashion retail and which method can help the fashion retailers to forecast fashion trends. (Qing ) (need to paraphrase)

https://reader.elsevier.com/reader/sd/pii/S0167923618301398?token=6E0438B32834F6C69038E7980989796C85B702FD8BB37CE1078C616AEA745D5E915B5A9EE93F0B7C0AA95F567627A5A1

Fashion retail is a highly competitive market where inventory control plays a major role in profitability of companies. It is important to get accurate sales forecasting to ensure there are no incidents like stock-out or overstock to happen which could directly and immediately affect the profitability of the company. In fact, fashion retailers operate with long supply chains which involve a large number of participants such as raw materials suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers which leads to orders being placed before there is an accurate understanding of the demand level for the products. In addition, the lifecycle of fashion products is typically very short which would be replaced with new season products with no historical data. Hence, sales forecasting is hard to predict because it is determined by a few factors such as personal taste, fashion trend, economics, weather and more. Furthermore, fashion products consist of a large number of different products in terms of different sizes, patterns and colours which makes sales forecasting even more difficult. Xxx studied that deep learning technique is a useful method to forecast the demand in the industry which has started to be used in a few research topics, for instance, transportation system, hospital management and electricity load. However, the limitation of this method is it is still not used widely in the research.

However, in a fashion retail con-text, no study been found where sales are predicted considering char-acteristics of the products and the opinion of domain experts as predictive variables

Impact of website on retail competition (qing)need further support

Price is not the only factor that would affect retail competition but also the process for delivering products, quality of the website and the final service plays a major role in determining the success of the organization (Tontini). It is because most of the young people, especially the Millennials, often purchase clothes online so it is important to make sure retailers have their store present online. It could be on websites, Taobao or on social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Wechat.. Xxx has developed an useful model for evaluating the quality of online retail services which is called e-SERVQUAL. There are total 11 dimensions to be evaluated which are access, trust, ease of navigation, efficiency, flexibility, personalization, price knowledge, privacy, aesthetics of the site, reliability and answer. Access means the accessibility of the website when consumers want to view or purchase the product whereas trust is the overall website feelings given to the customers that the retail products are good in quality and are worth to buy. Ease of navigation means the website is easy to use and the consumer can check out the product easily. Next, efficiency is similar with ease of navigation but this is to ensure the website looks simple, clean and aesthetic where there is no unnecessary tabs or information written on the website. Flexibility of the website is to provide several methods of payment for consumers to choose from such as wechat pay, Alipay, Apple pay, online banking and more. Personalization means to recommend products that consumers might like through the products that they clicked on before just like Taobao’s recommendation. Price knowledge means the retailers have to decide the prices of their products and delivery fees carefully among the competitors while privacy means the retailers have to make sure the personal information such as consumers’ name, date of birth and credit card number are to be protected. Subsequently, aesthetics of the site means to ensure the website is nice to view and matches most of the people’s taste whereas reliability means to make sure the product is undamaged and safely delivered to consumers’ houses in order to gain customer’s trust and loyalty. Lastly, the answer is to respond to the consumer's question at the fastest pace  through live assistance or automate customer support. For example,

How do retailers decide on the retail prices among competitors? (need more articles to support, ) QING

It can be complicated for two retailers in the same industry to decide on the retail prices. Price is one of the factors that could affect the competitive advantage or the overall sales of the outlet. In other words, price can also affect the purchasing behaviour of consumers when they visit the retail because they will start comparing the prices of products or services between different retails and may eventually decide to purchase at the retail which offers the lowest price.  In general, the two competitive retailers  and manufacturer decisions are always coordinated to make sure every retailer gets the equal manufacturer’s wholesale price. The manufacturer’s wholesale price is also called inner transfer price which will influence the profit of each retailer but would not affect the total system profit. The total system profit is determined by production or remanufacturing cost, collecting cost, retail prices and the manufacturer’s decision for wholesale price will be an effective way to coordinate the relationships of participants in this system.

After that, the retailers would observe and decide the retail price they are going to charge for the product or services respectively.
