Process recordings are valuable tools in learning and applying social work practice skills. They provide you with the hands-on opportunity to explore client engagement and examine your own work during the practicum experience. Process recordings require you to participate in active listening, keen observation, the recall and review of your work, and the examination of your feelings and emotions.

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following EPAS and general practices:

Assignment Description

In this assignment, you will conduct a process recording. Process recordings are social work education tools with which to record your thoughts, feelings, and an analysis of your work as it unfolds. Further, a process recording is an exchange between you and the client or client system. A process recording allows you to examine your skills in the practicum, and to apply techniques and generalist practice knowledge. This assignment does NOT involve actual audio or visual recording of interactions with clients. Rather, this assignment is a written document to be completed by you after a client interaction.

Assignment Instructions

1. Review and use the Process Recording Template [DOCX] .

2. Discuss this assignment with your site supervisor and obtain their permission to complete the assignment during practicum hours.

3. With the permission and supervision of your site supervisor, develop a process recording.

4. Complete the background information on the document (your name, date of interview, client's name, list of individuals present at the interview, purpose of the interview, and a basic client description)— Remember to create a pseudonym to protect the client's confidentiality.

5. In the first column of the process recording document, Verbatim Exchange, record the word-for-word (verbatim) interview between you and the client.

6. In the second column of the process recording document, Learner Feelings or Reactions, identify the feelings and emotions you experienced during the interview, including any reactions.

7. In the third column, Identify Skills and Theory Used, analyze the client interview dialogue, and then identify and record the associated social work skills and theories used during the interview.

8. In the fourth column, Competencies Used, identify and record the core competencies used.

9. Answer the following questions:

· Summarize your impressions of the interview.

· Identify lessons learned from completing this process recording.

· List questions to ask your site supervisor about improving your social work knowledge and skills.

10. After completing your process recording, share your document with your site supervisor and seek his or her insight on your work. Note: The site supervisor can add comments to the fifth column of the template, Site Supervisor Comments.

11. Once you have obtained your site supervisor's feedback, submit your recording as an assignment.
