Week 1 Discussion 1

Hello, my name is Ruby. I am excited to share this is my year before completing my BA in Public Health. Currently, I work for the County of Orange Behavioral Health Crisis program. I have been working within the county for 16 years. I do not have many hobbies; I do not have much free time between work, school, and family. For the next ten years, my goal is to finish my education and gain an administration job within the county. I am excited about this class and learning!

Making Health Easier

“Making Health Easier” campaign target populations are communities of African Americans and Hispanics. Including communities in states, tribes, territories, and a variety of federal and non-governmental partners. The main objective of this campaign is to help prevent chronic diseases and promote healthy living. According to (CDC, Making Health Easier 2019), The resources here can help. Communities can share the ads and pre-written articles with their local media outlets and customize them for newsletters, websites, blogs, and other publications. Online resources such as “Healthy Communities by State” are available and infographics. Most notably are the educational campaigns.

Publications were made to be available in different languages to meet the needs of non-English speaking communities. Interactive maps provide resources and contact information for health organizations in that state. Infographics you can View a selection of infographics that tell a story through visual communication and gain access to share the stories.

Questions:

How can educational campaigns reach communities that do not have access to social media?

What can also be included in this campaign?

Hello Class, I’m Angelica Chaudry. I’m interested in all things women’s health and would like to be an advocate for women in the healthcare field. One interesting or unique thing about me is that I had six wisdom teeth instead of the usual four.

The health campaign that I chose to focus on is the HEARHer campaign. The conversation regarding maternal mortality has been ongoing these past couple of years. The target audience of this campaign is healthcare providers and women who plan to give birth or already have given birth. According to the campaign, over 700 some die each year in this country from pregnancy complications that could have been avoided. “As many as 50,000 women experience severe, unexpected health problems related to pregnancy that may have long-term health consequences” (CDC, 2020). This campaign aims to raise awareness of potentially life-threatening warning signs during and after pregnancy and improve communication between patients and healthcare providers. HEARHer uses many health promotion tactics. They used posters, shareable graphics, and videos to continue to spread awareness regarding women and their need to be heard during and after pregnancy. One guide that was shown describes warning signs women should be privy of during pregnancy and after pregnancy.

Two questions that I have regarding this campaign:

-Has it been effective in recent years/months?

-How can we incorporate training sessions for healthcare providers so they can be more aware of situations like this come up?
