The theoretical framework guides all research studies (Butin, 2010). Interpretivism is the framework that guides the doctoral study of the perspectives of formative assessment use in reading classrooms. I will explore and study the phenomena by documenting data gathered from interviews (Butin, 2010). Therefore, the basic qualitative study that I will conduct has an investigative research purpose with the critical outcome of telling a story from participant perspectives (Butin, 2010).

Formative assessments are a critical element in monitoring the progress of student learning taking place in the classroom. However, teacher perception of using formative assessments based on their knowledge of the purpose, grading, and providing feedback can vary dependent on the professional learning the educator has encompassed (Xu & Brown, 2016). Using short, concise formative assessments with students as an evaluation tool assists the educator in developing plans that measure learning (Schelling & Rubenstein, 2021). Therefore, educators must know the value of effectively utilizing formative assessments with students so that sufficient instructional support is provided to students to accelerate and challenge their learning.
Checklist
The problem from my study guides the framework by using a dilemma that requires an examination (Grant, 2014). Concerning the purpose, the study aims to consider the perceptions of classroom teachers and their formative assessment use in reading classes. The data will guide a professional development plan that will accelerate learning. The framework aligns with my design because the research questions begin with why and how. Emergent design categories will be coded as the guiding framework from the semi-structured interviews data collection analysis (Butin, 2010).

This week's discussion aimed to explore theory(ies) and/or concept(s) support (frame) the study and who are the original authors. Along with how these theories (ies) and/or concept(s) inform the research problem, purpose, and methodological decisions.
The theory that supports the study I am investigating; "the challenges teachers face when introducing K-5 grade students to online learning" is Kolb's experiential learning theory. Kolb (1984) proposed the experiential learning theory. Kolb's work was influenced by Dewey (pedagogical philosophy), Lewin (experiential learning, field theory, and group dynamic), and Piaget (cognitive development). The approach to experiential learning theory is that the experience is the mechanism through which learning occurs. In the experiential model, Kolb described two ways of grasping experience: abstract conceptualization and concrete experience, and two ways of transforming experience: active experimentation and reflective observation (Kolb, 1984). According to Goncalves and Capucha (2020), learning models can be teacher/curriculum centered when characterized by expositive and inquisitive pedagogical practices, an active role from teachers who transmit information and evaluate the students about the amount of information learned, and passive roles from students. K-5 students require particular skills, and many factors contribute to the success and efficiency of teaching in elementary school. The experiential theory connects abstract conception to active exploration to produce meaning by connecting reality to experience with reflective observation. According to Kolb (1984), the advantage of this theory is that the stages work together, but learners may spend less time on abstract and active steps or prefer one component over the others. The basic qualitative study investigates the challenges teachers face when introducing K-5 grade students to online learning. The experiential theory connects abstract conception to active exploration to produce meaning by connecting reality to experience with reflective observation
