Week Seven Reflection Paper: After reading chapter 7 on how organizational communication impacts change, direct your attention to Exercise 7.1 “Listen to Who's Talking” (p. 238). Deborah Tannen (1995) argues that the way we communicate reinforces differences in power and gender relationships that can affect our interpretations of what we think is going on in a particular situation.
Use the questions on page 238 as a guideline to reflect on the types of communication used by leaders in a past change experience in the workplace; and how would you use your knowledge or awareness of these communication styles as a change leader to influence your interactions with your staff in future change initiative (s)?
