week7 1post
Hello Class,
1. Family violence as viewed through the bioecological perspective is best explained as the individual, who has a history of violence (chronosystem), finds a partner who shares some or all of the traits of their abuser (microsystem). This person then alienates their partner from all of their friends (macrosystem), as well as keeping them away from anyone who would "take them away from them" (exosystem). Because this type of violence has been shown to perpetuate itself, the victim can also become the perpetrator (biological).
There are many ways this type of violence can be prevented or helped. Educating everyone about family violence and giving them information on how to get themselves out of these situations. On a macrosystem level, the community can step up and tell the appropriate people if they see something that could be considered violent. There also community based programs that can help educate people about the warning signs of all types of violence within families so people are better prepared to take action.
Blessed,
Amber Cochrane
2. Class,
"The opening quote comes from a Chinesephilosophical text dating from the sixth century BCE, and it illustrates very well the bioecological nature of violence. The causes and consequences of violence occur within individuals and extend to every con-text of our lives, all the way out to our macrosystems." (Howe, T. R. (2011))Violence is everywhwre and hidden very well. Eve when you do not think you know anyone that has experienced violence in anyway you are going to be very surprisingly mistaken. Good ways to help with dysfunction in families is fleeing the abuse, counseling, checking in with neihbors and friends. For elders "The federal government createdfiduciary abuse specialist teams (FASTs), which are responsible for prosecuting those who financially abuse seniors."(Howe, T. R. (2011)
