Week 5 Writing Assignment: Sections 1 and 2 for Final Paper
The purpose of this writing assignment is to assess the student’s ability to communicate in written form while demonstrating their understanding and utilization of effective communication strategies as an interdisciplinary health care team member. Sections 1 and 2 will include therapeutic communication styles and communication models and theories. Please include concepts discussed within the readings and resources for all modules up to and through Week 5. Use attached rubric in drop box.

Students will analyze and summarize the concepts of therapeutic communication styles (Table 2.2), barriers to therapeutic communication (Table 2.3) and Assertive versus Non-Assertive Styles of Communication (Table 1.1). Include findings from surveys and tools used in Modules 1 and 2 to describe the importance of interprofessional communication. May include information from video topics Values in Action and Teamwork/Collaboration. (Due Week 5).

Students will select the communication model or theory that most closely aligns with preferred method of communication. Refer back to readings and module resources. One example would be the FOCUS Model for Being Present (Box 2.2).
